Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important comparisons, including the rise in working time from 33% to 42% and the fall in socialising from 19% to 6%. However, some figures are misreported: sleeping was 32% in 1958 and fell to 25% in 2008, not 32% in both years. The overview also says the categories “depicts overall increase,” which is unclear and inaccurate because some activities declined. Playing sports appears only in 2008, so describing it as having “stagnent growth” is unsupported. The response is 144 words, below the required 150. To strengthen the summary, give a clear overview of the main rises and falls, check every figure, and include the new sports category accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and details comparing the two years. This gives the reader a general route through the information, and contrast markers such as “Moreover” and “Whereas” show an attempt to connect comparisons. However, progression is uneven: the overview is difficult to interpret, and the final paragraph moves between sports, socialising and travel without a clear organising principle. Some linking words are used awkwardly, as in “Moreover in 2008” and “while,” which begins a sentence after a full stop. Group the main increases together and the decreases or newly reported activity together, and use clear sentence boundaries and references to make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of task-related vocabulary, including “dramatic rise,” “tremendous downward trend” and “steep upward trend,” which helps convey change. However, spelling and word-choice errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow: “pie chat,” “dipicts gradeall,” “significantely,” “approlixately” and “stagnent” are examples. Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “covered the major proportion” and “average 3 time.” Use standard chart language and check spelling carefully; for example, say that a category “accounted for” a percentage and that travel time “more than tripled.” More accurate collocations would make your comparisons clearer and reduce the reader’s effort.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex comparisons, including “Whereas, sleeping decreased to 32%” and “falling from 19% to 6% within 50 years.” However, sentence control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes obscure the intended meaning. The opening has an incomplete or awkward construction (“between the year 1958 to 2008”), while “overall, working contributes the most” shifts tense and does not form a clear overview. Commas and sentence boundaries are also unreliable, as in “while, going out…” after a full stop. Use past tense consistently for the historical data, form complete sentences, and check articles, prepositions and punctuation. Shorter, accurately controlled comparisons would be a useful foundation before adding more complex structures.
