Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the two years and report several important changes, including the rise in working from 33% to 42%, the fall in socialising from 19% to 6%, and the decrease in sleeping from 32% to 25%. These figures are broadly accurate, and the response includes an overview. However, the overview is unclear and contains a factual error: sports is shown only in 2008, at 7%, not as remaining constant in both years. The statement that travelling to work became less is also the reverse of the data, which rises from 2% to 7%. Some comparisons, such as relaxing at home, are reported but not clearly developed. A more precise overview and accurate coverage of the main changes would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group activities and comparisons. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the overview and the sentence beginning “one activity which become more differenins.” Linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “On the other hand,” and “Following this” are used, but some do not clearly express the relationship between the ideas that follow. The reference to sports as “remain stable” also disrupts the comparison. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each figure directly to its comparison so that cohesion feels less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “dramatically diminished,” “gradually,” and “percentage,” and you attempt to describe changes rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “major parts,” “rise slightly,” “hiking gradually,” and “the playing.” Spelling errors, including “shlightly” and “differenins,” also make parts of the response harder to read. Aim for precise, natural collocations for chart descriptions, such as “accounted for,” “increased,” and “fell,” and check spelling and word forms. This would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while” and “but,” and the main figures can generally be understood. However, control is inconsistent: “working was the major parts” has an agreement error, while “it was rise slightly” uses an incorrect verb form. Other examples include “in 1958 their was rising” and “the sleeping was also major parts,” where sentence structure, tense, and articles or agreement are not controlled. Some sentences are also joined in ways that make their meaning unclear. Practise forming accurate past-tense comparisons, for example, “The proportion working rose from 33% to 42%,” and use shorter, complete sentences when a longer structure becomes difficult to manage.
