Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You report several key figures accurately, including working at 33% in 1958 and 42% in 2008, sleeping at 32% and 25%, and travel at 2% and 7%. You also identify the main extremes: work was highest in 2008, while travel was lowest in 1958. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly summarise the broader changes, especially the sharp fall in going out with friends or family from 19% to 6%, or the addition of sports at 7% in 2008. The response mainly lists figures rather than selecting and comparing the most significant features, so coverage of the task remains partial. Develop a clearer overview and explicitly compare the major rises and falls.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two years. This helps the reader distinguish the data for 1958 from that for 2008. However, progression within the paragraphs is mostly a sequence of figures, and the repeated transitions “Whereas,” “After this,” and “Moreover” feel mechanical rather than showing clear relationships between the information. Some sentences also begin with “Whereas” without being connected to a complete main clause, which interrupts the flow. Organise the details around meaningful comparisons—for example, grouping activities that rose and those that fell—and use a wider range of accurate linking and referencing to make the progression clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing charts, including “percentage,” “recorded,” “observed,” and “accounted for,” and the activity labels are generally clear. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “spent day on” and “consume their day to going out.” There are also spelling errors in “thier” and the joined form “workin,” which reduce accuracy. The opening calls the visual a “line graph,” although it is a pair of pie charts; this is an important word-choice error. Use precise chart language and natural collocations, such as “the proportion of time spent working” or “the share devoted to travel,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “Whereas” and “while,” but these are often not controlled successfully. For example, “Whereas, the lowest percentage of time spent on travelling to workin 1958” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence, and “the highest percentage of a day spent on working in year of 2008” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Articles and prepositions are also frequently missing or misplaced, as in “in the 2008” and “spent on sleeping.” The repeated simple reporting patterns limit grammatical range, while errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise complete comparisons with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, tense, and sentence boundaries.
