Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important figures accurately: working rises from 33% to 42%, sleeping falls from 32% to 25%, and travel to work increases from 2% to 7%. You also note the addition of sports in 2008. However, the overview is unclear and says there were “not a huge changes,” despite substantial shifts in working and socialising. The response mainly lists figures rather than selecting and comparing the key patterns; for example, going out with friends and family drops sharply from 19% to 6%, but this is not clearly expressed as a major change. The 2008 sports figure is also omitted. A clearer overview and more explicit comparisons would make the summary more complete and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and descriptions of the two years, so the reader can identify the broad topic and some comparisons. However, progression is difficult to follow because the overview and data details are mixed together, and the final sentence repeats the point about increases without adding a new comparison. Linking expressions such as “Before,” “by the time,” and “From 2008” are used awkwardly or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. Several long sentences run together, particularly the paragraph beginning “Overall not a huge changes,” which makes the figures harder to process. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs and group the largest increases and decreases together.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “increase,” “decrease,” “decline,” and “categories,” and the activity labels generally make the subject understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “spending their time doing their favourate activities,” “increase on 42%,” and “dramatically upword.” Spelling errors, including “favourate” and “occures,” also reduce precision. Repetition of “overall,” “time,” and “activity” limits flexibility. Aim to use standard chart-reporting phrases and accurate verbs, such as “accounted for,” “rose to,” and “fell to,” while checking spelling and avoiding informal or unclear expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to combine information in longer sentences, but control is inconsistent and errors frequently make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “people were only spent their times” has an incorrect verb construction, while “working increase on 42%” lacks appropriate tense and preposition. Subject–verb agreement and sentence structure are also problematic in “not a huge changes happens.” Many clauses are joined without clear punctuation, and the response relies mainly on simple statements rather than showing a controlled range of sentence forms. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build comparisons with clear structures, for example: “Working rose from 33% in 1958 to 42% in 2008, whereas sleeping fell to 25%.”
