Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are two pie charts which show a comparison of two times about working hour of an adult. They show us the time distribution among different activities.

Overall, the pie charts exhibit that most times were spent by working in both times. The sleeping time reduces and a sharp decrease is observed in going out with family times.Another important thing to notice is that there is no playing sports section in 1958 but it stays in 2008.The working time increases sharply after half century.

At 1958, we observe a time spending of adults. The working time and sleeping time both consumes almost similar percentage near 33.The third highest time spending was family outing time which is 19%.The relaxing time at home consists of only 8%.The rest ,travelling to work exhibits only 2 percent of total spending.

Regarding 2008, a different time schedule is displayed. The working time increases by 9 percent than 1958.It becomes 42% from 33%.The sleeping time falls from 32 percent to 25 percent compared to 2008.The relaxing time at home is percent. The playing sports ,going out with friends and travelling to works remains close to 7 percent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main overall changes: working takes the largest share in both years and rises, while sleeping and socialising decline; you also note that sports appears only in 2008. Several figures are reported accurately, including 33% and 42% for work, 32% and 25% for sleep, and 19% for going out in 1958. However, coverage is partial because the 2008 figures for relaxing at home and going out are omitted or unclear: “The relaxing time at home is percent” gives no value, and the 6% socialising share is not stated. The claim that the three smaller 2008 categories are all close to 7% also obscures the difference between 6% and 13%. Include the missing values and compare the key shifts more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for each year. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Overall” and “Regarding 2008” signal the sections. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes list-like, and connections between comparisons are limited. The overview repeats the rise in working time in two sentences, while the final paragraph moves from work to sleep and then to several categories without clearly distinguishing their values. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as in “compared to 2008,” which follows a statement about the change from 1958. Grouping the largest changes together and using clearer comparison links would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “time distribution,” “percentage,” “sharp decrease,” and “consists of,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “working hour of an adult,” “time spending,” and “family outing time.” Repetition of “time” and “working time” also makes the description less flexible. The phrase “The relaxing time at home is percent” is incomplete and leaves the intended figure unclear. Aim for standard chart language such as “the proportion of the day spent working” and “the share allocated to relaxing at home,” and use precise activity labels consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “The sleeping time reduces and a sharp decrease is observed…” and “There is no playing sports section in 1958 but it stays in 2008.” However, errors are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include missing articles and spacing in “There are two pie charts…of an adult,” the incorrect agreement in “both consumes,” and the incomplete construction “The relaxing time at home is percent.” Tense and comparison patterns also need attention: “At 1958” should use the correct preposition, and “falls…compared to 2008” reverses the comparison. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete, well-formed comparison sentences.
