Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main increase in working time, from 33% to 42%, and report several other figures accurately, including sleeping and socialising. However, the overview is unclear and overgeneralises: it says “the other activities are decrease,” although relaxing at home and travelling both rose, and sports appears only in 2008. The chart also shows relaxing at home at 8% in 1958 and 13% in 2008, while sports is 7% in 2008; the claim that both were 8% and 5% in 1958 is unsupported. The response is 137 words, below the 150-word minimum, and the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a clearer overview and more accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and a paragraph of figures. This gives the reader some organisation, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” show an effort to connect details. However, progression is limited because the overview is vague and the body lists figures in a largely repetitive sequence rather than grouping related increases and decreases. Some links are inaccurate or awkward, such as “And the other activities are decrease” and “mean while,” while “These changing was happned in both charts” does not add a clear concluding point. Organise the body around contrasting trends and use fewer, more precise transitions to make the comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant activity labels from the chart, including “working,” “sleeping,” and “going out with family,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the vocabulary range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated use of “activity” and “increased” or “decreased.” Expressions such as “the working adults increase one activity” and “These changing” are not natural ways to describe chart data. There are also spelling errors, including “happned,” and the phrase “mean while” should be written as “meanwhile.” Build a small range of accurate reporting language, such as “accounted for,” “rose,” “fell,” and “the proportion of time spent on,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response communicates several comparisons using simple past-tense clauses, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the sentence patterns are limited. Errors include subject–verb agreement and verb forms in “The pie charts beneath illustrates” and “the working adults increase,” as well as the faulty construction “the other activities are decrease.” The sentence beginning “Moreover” also has a confusing structure: “both were in 1958 were 8% and 5%.” Capitalisation after a full stop is inconsistent (“while”), and punctuation around the figures is uneven. These errors sometimes make relationships between the data difficult to understand. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and use clear comparative structures, for example, “Working rose from 33% to 42%.”
