Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant comparisons, including the rise in working time from 33% to 42%, the fall in socialising from 19% to 6%, and changes in sleeping, commuting and relaxing at home. These figures match the chart, so the response is generally on topic. However, it does not give a clear overview of the main pattern: work became the largest activity, while time spent socialising and sleeping declined, and sports appears only in 2008. Playing sports (7% in 2008) is omitted, and the response mostly lists individual figures rather than selecting and summarising the most significant features. Some descriptions, such as “people of 1958 were went with their family friend,” also make the intended comparison unclear. A concise overview and fuller coverage of the key changes would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response follows a broadly chronological comparison, moving through socialising, commuting, work, sleeping and relaxing, and linking phrases such as “In addition” and “On the other side” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the information is presented as one long paragraph, with no clear overview or grouping of related trends. Several transitions are awkward or repetitive, and “Consequently” does not express a clear cause-and-effect relationship between the figures. The repeated pattern of describing 1958 and then 2008 also makes the progression feel list-like. Organise the report into an introduction, an overview and one or two comparison paragraphs; use linking expressions only where they accurately show contrast or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “travelling,” “work,” “sleep” and “relaxed,” and the activity categories are usually recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “went with their family friend,” “spent a least time,” and “liked to rest at their homes.” Repeated use of “people,” “like” and “were” also reduces precision and makes the report sound less formal. Choose vocabulary that describes proportions and changes directly, such as “accounted for,” “rose,” “fell” and “spent time socialising.” Check collocations carefully: for example, adults “spent time with friends and family,” rather than “went with their family friend.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to combine comparisons using clauses and contrast markers, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make the meaning harder to follow. Examples include “the people of 1958 were went,” “the individuals of 1958 were like to work,” and “the people of 2008 were like to sleep.” These mix verb forms or use an incorrect construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “the big difference between the 1958 and in 2008,” while spacing around full stops and commas is inconsistent. Use straightforward, accurate patterns such as “In 1958, adults spent 33% of their time working, compared with 42% in 2008.” Then vary these with controlled comparison clauses.
