Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall changes accurately: working rises from 33% to 42%, while going out with friends and family falls from 19% to 6%. You also report the correct figures for sleeping and commuting, and your overview makes a relevant comparison between increasing work time and decreasing sleep time. This addresses the task, but some features are less fully covered: relaxing at home (8% to 13%) and playing sports (7% in 2008) are omitted, and the latter is the only activity shown for 2008 that is not listed for 1958. Develop the overview to capture the broader shifts, then include the remaining categories selectively for a more complete summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then to comparisons of individual activities. This helps the reader follow the main points. However, progression within the body is weakened by repeated transitions such as “While on the other hand” and “While on the other,” which make the links feel mechanical and sometimes unclear. The opening also promises to describe where people spent the most and least time, but the response does not consistently organise the details around that comparison. Use clearer topic sentences and group related increases and decreases together; vary linking expressions and make each paragraph’s purpose explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “proportion,” “increased,” and “fell down,” so the reader can understand the main comparisons. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or informal, and some phrases obscure the intended meaning. For example, “big drawback” and “is disgusting” are inappropriate for neutral data reporting, while “pupils percentage” does not describe working adults. “Ancient” is also unsuitable for referring to 1958. Aim for precise, neutral expressions such as “the proportion,” “declined,” and “accounted for.” A wider set of accurate terms for describing shares and changes would make the report clearer and more appropriate to the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main figures and trends are generally understandable. However, errors in sentence construction and verb forms occur across the response. The opening, “In the given pie charts illustrates,” has no clear grammatical subject, and “its value reached till 42%” uses an incorrect verb pattern. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and agreement in phrases such as “in 1958s” and “its tend to get down.” Some sentences run together or use incomplete structures, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise forming complete subject–verb sentences and checking agreement, tense, and punctuation, especially when combining comparisons.
