Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two years and report several key figures accurately, including working (33% to 42%), sleeping (32% to 25%), and travel to work (2% to 7%). However, the response mainly lists activities rather than summarising the most important changes. The overview says working was the largest category in both years, but it does not clearly capture the broader pattern: work and commuting took a greater share in 2008, while sleep and socialising declined; sports also appears only in 2008. Some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate, such as saying sleeping in 2008 is “above of the previous years,” when its share fell. A clearer overview and accurate comparisons would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and separate descriptions of 1958 and 2008. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited because the body paragraphs repeat the same ranking pattern, and links such as “Then” are used mechanically rather than to show meaningful comparisons. Phrases including “In the above” and “There are minior above activity” make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Grouping the figures by increases and decreases, and using clear comparison links such as “whereas” or “by contrast,” would create a more coherent progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “working adults,” “sleeping,” and “travelling to work,” so the reader can identify the activities being described. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “highest proportion activity” and “in the year of.” Some word combinations are unnatural or unclear, such as “the working of this year is sleeping” and “low activity.” The spelling error “minior” also reduces accuracy. Aim for more precise chart language and natural collocations, for example, “accounted for,” “share,” and “category,” while avoiding repeated sentence frames.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts to express more complex comparisons are often faulty. For example, “the highest proportion activity is working of both charts in 1958 is (33%) and 2008 is (42%)” has an unclear sentence structure, while “the working of this year is sleeping” does not form a clear grammatical comparison. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “the relaxing at home (8%), then the low activity” and “(25%),this activity.” These errors sometimes make the intended relationships difficult to understand. Practise writing complete comparison sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check punctuation between clauses.
