Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You report several key figures accurately, including working rising from 33% to 42%, sleeping falling from 32% to 25%, and socialising declining from 19% to 6%. You also note that sport appears only in 2008. However, the overview is not fully reliable: working is the largest category in 2008, but sleeping, at 32%, is slightly higher than working in 1958, so the claim that working was highest in both years is inaccurate. The statement that there was “no huge difference” also overlooks substantial shifts, especially in work and going out. Some details are repeated rather than synthesised. A clearer overview identifying the main increases and decreases would make the response more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, a paragraph of comparisons and a final paragraph about sport. This gives the reader some guidance through the information. However, progression is weakened by repetitive sequencing phrases such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition,” which list figures without showing how they relate. The final paragraph begins “In other words,” although it introduces a new detail, and the concluding sentence repeats a broad claim rather than drawing together the main trends. Some references are also unclear, as in “the percentage of playing sport was 7% that was mentioned.” Grouping the increases and decreases into a more purposeful sequence would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “recorded,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “percentage of employing adults,” “passed their duration,” and “youngers.” Repeating “recorded” and “percentage” also makes the description sound mechanical. Spelling errors—including “thier,” “perfomed,” “decreaed,” “relexing,” and “acivity”—are noticeable and reduce precision. Aim for standard expressions such as “working adults spent their time” and “the proportion rose/fell,” and check spelling carefully. More accurate collocations would help you describe the data clearly without relying on repeated wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example, “Moreover sleeping rate was recorded in 1958 that was 32%, after that it was decreased in 2008 by 25%.” However, these complex attempts are often faulty, and the response relies heavily on similar simple reporting patterns. Errors in sentence structure and verb forms can make relationships between figures unclear: “going with friends or family of adults were 19%” does not form a clear grammatical comparison, while “that was increased” is an awkward passive construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and punctuation, including missing commas after introductory phrases and inconsistent capitalisation. Practise concise comparative structures, such as “Sleeping fell from 32% to 25%,” before combining clauses.
