Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that work took the largest share in both years and correctly note the shift in the least common activity. Most figures are reported accurately, including work, sleep, travel and socialising. However, the 1958 figure for playing sports is incorrect: the chart shows no sports category in that year, while 6% refers to going out with friends or family in 2008. This misreading affects the comparison, and the overview could better highlight the key changes, especially the rise in work and the fall in socialising and sleep. The response is also three words below the required minimum. More precise selection and comparison of the data would make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-part structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for each year. This makes the information easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In contrast,” and “whereas” help signal relationships. The progression is generally logical, supporting the coherence expected at this level. Some connections are less smooth, however. The sentence beginning “Compared with, relaxing at home…” is incomplete and interrupts the flow of the 2008 paragraph. Also, the year-by-year organisation leads to a list of figures rather than consistently drawing comparisons across the two charts. Use complete transitions and group related changes—for example, work and sleep—to strengthen progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-appropriate vocabulary, including “illustrate,” “proportion,” “relatively lower,” and “least common.” These choices communicate the chart information clearly, and phrases such as “going out with friends or family” accurately describe the categories. However, there are a few spelling and word-choice slips: “activites” and “activiy” are misspelled, and “performed” is less natural for describing how people spend their time. “The proportion of the day spent on…” would be more precise. Repetition of “adults” and “at” also makes parts of the report sound list-like. Greater variety in describing shares and changes, while maintaining accurate collocations, would improve flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including comparisons with “while,” “whereas,” and “followed by.” Most of the meaning remains clear, and the opening and overview are generally well controlled. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. The phrase “Compared with, relaxing at home, at 13%” is a sentence fragment, and the comma after “with” is misplaced. In “relaxing at home, playing sports and travelling to work were relatively lower at, 8%,” the comma before the figures is also unnecessary. Aim to make each comparison a complete clause, such as “Relaxing at home accounted for 13%, compared with 8% in 1958.” This would improve accuracy without sacrificing sentence variety.
