Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart illustrates the proportions of how the working adults spent their time in a particular country from 1958 to 2008.
Overall, the proportion of working is the highest in both the years followed by sleeping. The proportion of going out with the friends/ family has significantly reduced from the year 1958 to 2008. While, time spent on travelling at work has slightly increased.
The time spent on working in both the years from1958 to 2008 have increased from 33% to 42%, while time spent on sleep has reduced from 32% to 25%. Relaxing at home become more prominent in 2008 as it has increased from 8% to 13% from 1958.
The significant decrease can be seen in the time spent with the freinds amd family from 19% in 1958 to 6% in 2008. The time spent on travelling at work have seen slight increase from 2% to 7% from 1958 to 2008. The time spent on playing sports have been more or less same in both the years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response identifies the main overall pattern: working takes the largest share in both years, while sleeping is also substantial, and going out with friends or family declines markedly. It reports the key figures accurately for work, sleep, relaxation, socialising and commuting, and presents a clear overview supported by comparisons. However, the statement that working is followed by sleeping is not fully accurate for 2008, when relaxing at home and travelling to work both equal or exceed some other categories depending on the comparison; more importantly, playing sports is described as “more or less same” in both years even though it appears only in 2008, at 7%. A more precise account of this category and the 2008 ranking would strengthen an otherwise well-supported summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear four-paragraph structure: introduction, overview, and two paragraphs of detailed comparisons. Information generally progresses logically, with the main changes grouped together, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “while,” and “from…to…” help connect the figures. Cohesion is not always smooth, however. “While,” begins a sentence fragment in the overview, and repeated formulations such as “The time spent…” make the final paragraphs feel mechanical. The reference to sports as unchanged is also unclear because no 1958 figure is given. Use a wider range of concise comparisons and ensure each linking word joins complete, clearly related clauses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant task vocabulary, including “proportions,” “significantly reduced,” “prominent,” and “slight increase,” so the main comparisons are understandable. However, the range and control are limited by repeated wording such as “the time spent” and imprecise collocations: “travelling at work” does not express commuting, and “the proportion of working” is less natural than a phrase describing the share of the day spent working. There are also spelling errors in “freinds” and “amd,” and “friends/family” is an awkward compressed form. Aim for accurate, varied expressions such as “the share allocated to,” “commuting,” and “time devoted to,” while checking spelling and natural word combinations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response communicates its comparisons, but some grammatical errors recur across the paragraphs. For example, “the proportion of working is the highest” uses an awkward noun structure, and “the time spent on working…have increased” has subject–verb disagreement; “Relaxing at home become more prominent” also needs a past-tense verb. The overview’s “While, time spent…” is an incomplete clause, and “The time spent on playing sports have been…” contains agreement and sentence-structure problems. There is some variety through clauses with “while” and “as,” but control is uneven. Check singular and plural subjects, use past forms consistently for the two years, and punctuate dependent clauses so that most sentences are complete and accurate.
