Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important contrasts: working takes a larger share in 2008, while sleeping and time with friends or family take smaller shares, and travel rises from 2% to 7%. However, the response only partly summarises the charts. It gives no clear, separate overview and omits key figures, including work rising from 33% to 42%, sleep falling from 32% to 25%, and socialising dropping from 19% to 6%. The claim that increased sport “lead to increase in relaxing” is not supported by the charts; sport appears only in 2008, at 7%, while relaxing rises from 8% to 13%. Report the main changes accurately and avoid suggesting causes the data cannot establish.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction, then compares the two years and mentions several changes. Basic links such as “unlike” and “from 2% to 7%” help the reader follow individual points. However, the ideas are crowded into a small number of long, loosely connected sentences, and there is no distinct overview to guide the comparison. The final sentence moves from sport to relaxation without a clear logical relationship, while the opening comparison is difficult to follow. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main details, and group related increases and decreases. More precise linking and clearer references to each year would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “pie charts,” “travelling,” “sleep,” and “increased,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “major time,” “time spending with their families,” and “taking their energy.” These choices sometimes make the intended comparison difficult to understand. There are also spelling errors, including “thier” and “heir,” and repetition of “time” and “adults.” Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example, “share of the day,” “spent socialising,” and “accounted for.” Check spelling carefully and choose neutral descriptions rather than unsupported explanations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentence forms, including a comparison with “unlike,” but control is inconsistent and the response relies heavily on extended sentences. Errors in sentence structure and agreement appear in examples such as “between the 1958 to 2008” and “the major differences … has increased.” The clause beginning “Where adults from 1958…” is not properly connected to the preceding sentence, and the final sentence joins several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. These problems can make relationships between the figures hard to follow. Practise writing complete, controlled sentences with accurate comparisons, such as “Working rose from 33% in 1958 to 42% in 2008, whereas sleeping fell from 32% to 25%.”
