Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern that working took the largest share in both years and report several relevant figures, including the rise in working from 33% to 42% and the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: travelling was not the lowest category in 2008, since both travelling and playing sports accounted for 7%, and it was not the lowest in 1958 either, as it was 2% while relaxing at home was 8%—so it was lowest only in 1958. The response also omits playing sports in its comparisons and gives limited explanation of the overall changes. Make the overview precise, cover the new category, and compare the largest increases and decreases more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and two paragraphs of details, and it groups related activities together. However, progression within sentences and between ideas is often disrupted. For example, “While people less time spent on travelling to work in two years. Which was lowest percentage” leaves a fragment and an unclear reference; “After 50 years” also follows the family-outing figure without a clear connection. Linking words such as “Followed by,” “Whereas,” and “Similarly” are used mechanically or introduce incomplete thoughts. Use complete sentences, connect each comparison directly to its figures, and ensure pronouns such as “this number” have an unmistakable reference.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “dominant category,” “share,” “percentage,” and “decreased,” so the reader can generally understand the activities and trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “working peoples,” “time spent on working,” and “going outdoor with family.” Spelling errors—including “approximatly,” “intrested,” “recpectvely,” and “catogry”—also make the writing less clear and less controlled. Aim for accurate, natural phrases such as “working adults,” “the proportion of the day spent working,” and “going out with friends and family.” Check spelling carefully and avoid repeating “number” when “proportion” or “share” is more precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
There are attempts to use longer structures, including “While…” and “where…,” but these are often incomplete or faulty, and sentence control is inconsistent. Examples include “While people less time spent…” (missing a suitable verb construction), “Which was the highest share…” (a fragment), and “This number was go down” (incorrect verb form). The opening also has agreement and article problems in “working peoples in a specific country.” Commas and full stops are sometimes placed in ways that create fragments, particularly before “Which” and “where.” Build accurate simple comparison sentences first, then add subordinate clauses only when the whole sentence remains complete; check verb forms, agreement and punctuation.
