Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two years and mention several relevant changes, including that working and travel increased while sleeping and socialising decreased. However, the response gives only a limited account of the chart: it omits most figures, does not mention the 7% allocated to sport in 2008, and does not clearly compare the main categories across both years. Some statements are also unclear, such as the comparison between time with friends and relaxing at home. The overview is attempted, but the key features are not selected and reported precisely enough. The response is 143 words, so it also falls short of the required 150 words. Include a clear overview and support it with accurate figures and direct comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some basic organisation: it begins with an introduction and then discusses 1958 and 2008 in separate paragraphs. This gives the reader a rough sense of the time sequence. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak, and ideas are often repeated rather than developed. For example, the 2008 paragraph repeats that working increased and sleeping decreased without giving figures or linking these changes to the other categories. Connectors such as “Overall” are used, but the relationships between ideas are not always clear, and several sentences are difficult to follow. Grouping the largest categories together and using clear comparisons between years would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “working,” “sleeping,” and “travelling to work,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling errors—such as “counrty,” “thier,” “activites,” and “dicreas”—make the response harder to read. Several phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, including “spend the most off time” and “is speent very less.” Aim for accurate chart language and collocations, such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “rose from … to …”. Proofreading spelling and choosing precise verbs would improve clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, and there is little evidence of controlled complex sentence structures. Frequent errors in sentence formation, verb forms, agreement, and articles sometimes distort meaning. For example, “the adult spend the sleeping is very less here dicreas” does not form a clear grammatical sentence, while “The spent playing sport” lacks a clear subject and correct verb structure. The opening sentence also has an unclear construction: “The number of pie chart two chart show…”. Practise building complete sentences with a subject and verb, and use accurate past-tense comparisons, for example, “The proportion of time spent working rose from 33% to 42%.”
