Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two years and report several important figures accurately: working rises from 33% to 42%, going out falls from 19% to 6%, and sleeping declines from 32% to 25%. However, the response only partly covers the chart. It does not give the figures for relaxing at home, and the final statement about sports and commuting is unclear and omits their actual changes; sports appears only in 2008, at 7%, while travel rises from 2% to 7%. The overview mainly lists activities rather than summarising the dominant trends. The response is also 26 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail available. Include a clear overview and compare the remaining categories to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence: an introduction, a general statement, and then details about work, socialising and sleep. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” attempt to signal relationships. However, the overview repeats the activity list instead of presenting the main pattern, and the final sentence does not clearly connect to the preceding comparisons. The contrast marker “On the other hand” is not well suited to the point that follows, which groups two categories without explaining their relationship. Develop a clearer overview and organise the details into a logical comparison of increases and decreases, using linking phrases only where they accurately show the connection.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “significant,” “drop,” and “decline,” and the main comparisons are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate, such as “utilize their time,” “major drop had seen,” and “least proportion of changes.” Spelling errors, including “specfic,” “utalize,” and “differnet,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural language for describing data: for example, say that a proportion “increased” or “fell,” and that a category “accounted for” a particular percentage. Check spelling carefully and avoid using “significant” unless the change is clearly substantial in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more developed sentences, including comparisons with “while” and a relative clause beginning “which.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make the relationships between figures difficult to follow. For example, “The pie charts illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “in 2008 it show significant changed” contains errors in verb form and tense. The sentence beginning “the major drop had seen” also lacks a correctly formed passive construction. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly in “42 percent.the major drop.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and basic comparison structures, such as “the figure rose from X to Y” and “the proportion fell from X to Y,” before adding more complex clauses.
