Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts illustrate the proportions of time spent by working adults in a particular country in the year 1958 and 2008.
Overall, the proportions of adult who spent their most of the time in working witnessed an upward; in addition, the proportions of worker who spent their most of the time in relaxing and travelling to work witnessed an upwards trend. However, rest of the activity namely sleeping and going out with family experienced a decline by the final year.
initially, the proportions of the working adults who spent most of their time in working was about 33 per cent; in addition, it increased in the year 2008 ( from 33% to 42%). The proportions of working adults who spent their most of the time in relaxing at home was about 8%; and rose from 8% to 13% in the year 2008. The proportions of workers who spent their most of the time in travelling to work experienced a rose by the final year; initially, it was just only 2% and rose upto 7%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main changes accurately: working rises from 33% to 42%, while sleeping and socialising fall, and you also report increases in relaxing at home and commuting. The overview captures the broad direction of change, and the figures in the body are generally consistent with the chart. To make the account more fully developed, highlight the most striking comparisons more directly—for example, working becomes the largest category, while going out with friends or family shows the sharpest decline. The sports figure needs clearer treatment: it appears only in 2008, so it is not possible to say it “remain[ed] steady.” Also avoid describing these as proportions of people who spent “most” of their time on an activity; the chart shows shares of the day.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group increases and decreases. This gives the reader a generally clear route through the information. However, progression is weakened by repeated sentence openings such as “The proportions of…” and frequent reliance on “in addition,” “However,” and “Along with that.” Some links do not express the relationship precisely, and the final sports point is attached to the declining categories despite being a separate feature. To strengthen cohesion, organise the details by the largest changes or by clear groups, and use concise comparisons to connect figures—for instance, contrast the rise in work with the fall in socialising.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportions,” “declined,” “rose,” and “fell,” so the main trends are usually understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated phrases such as “spent their most of the time” and “the proportions of workers,” and several word choices or forms are inaccurate: “witnessed an upward,” “experienced a rose,” and “delince.” “Remain steady” is also unsuitable because sports is shown only for 2008. These errors make the description less natural and occasionally obscure the intended meaning. Aim for precise trend language and vary the subjects of sentences, using terms such as “the share,” “the figure,” and “accounted for” appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including clauses linked with “while” or “however,” and the reader can usually follow the comparisons. Nevertheless, grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include “the proportions of adult,” “the proportions … was,” and “the proportions … witnessed an upward,” where agreement or sentence construction is faulty. The opening of the overview also lacks a capital letter, and spacing around the parenthesis in “( from 33% to 42%)” is uneven. Many sentences follow the same pattern, and longer constructions often become difficult to control. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build comparisons with simpler, complete structures before adding subordinate clauses.
