Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given charts show how working adults from particular country spent their time in 1958 and 2008.

The chart summarise the acitivities of adult workers by divided them with percentages and various activities and with the example of two different years 1958 and 2008.

Lets discuss the year 1958 , this diagram illustrates that working aduts with high proportion 33 in compare the lowest proportion 2 of adults travelling to work while 32% of them sleeping and others 8% relaxing at home at the end 19% going out with friends and family.

While in 2008 chart shows the higher proportion 42 of adults was in working while proportion 7 was same in travelling to work and playing sports. On the other hand the second higher proportion 25 was in sleeeping while 13% of adults prefer to relax at home. At the end the lowest proportion 6 was going out with friends or family.

The main feature in comparing both charts was the adults took interest in playing sports in the year 2008 while it was not happend in 1958. And most common thing in both chart higher proportion of adults interest was in working. While in travelling to work proportion incresed in 2008 and going out with friends or families decreased in 2008.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You report many key figures accurately, including working at 33% in 1958 and 42% in 2008, sleeping at 32% and 25%, and the fall in going out from 19% to 6%. You also identify the new sports category in 2008 and note the rise in commuting. This addresses the main features, but the overview is placed at the end and is not fully developed: it would be clearer to summarise the largest increases and decreases together. Some comparisons are also imprecise, such as calling working the “higher proportion” without explicitly comparing its change across the years. State the overall shifts first, then support them with selected figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each year, and a final comparison. This makes the information broadly understandable. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated sequencing phrases such as “At the end” and “While,” and the final paragraph repeats points already mentioned rather than bringing the comparison together efficiently. Some links are unclear, particularly “the second higher proportion 25,” which makes the ranking difficult to follow. Use a concise overview after the introduction, then organise the details around changes between years—for example, increases in work and commuting versus decreases in sleep and socialising. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow each figure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “activities,” “increased,” and “decreased,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning awkward: “adults took interest in playing sports” and “higher proportion of adults interest was in working” do not express the data naturally. Spelling errors such as “acitivities,” “aduts,” “sleeeping,” and “incresed” are also noticeable. Aim for precise reporting verbs and standard phrases such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “rose from … to …”; check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons introduced by “while” and “on the other hand.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “The chart summarise” has subject–verb disagreement, while “working adults from particular country” is missing an article. The sentence beginning “Lets discuss the year 1958” also runs several figures together without clear punctuation, and “the higher proportion 42 of adults was in working” has an awkward grammatical structure. Practise complete, clearly punctuated sentences and use consistent past-tense reporting forms.
