Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main pattern that work took the largest share in both years and report several relevant figures, including work rising from 33% to 42%, sleep falling from 32% to 25%, and socialising dropping from 19% to 6%. This gives the reader a useful account of the major changes. However, the overview is less precise in places: the chart is for 2008, not 2005, and the least activity in 1958 was travelling to work, whereas in 2008 both socialising and travelling (6% and 7%, respectively) were small shares. The claim that sports was the same in both years is unsupported; sports appears only in the 2008 data. Clarifying these points and comparing the categories more consistently would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs presenting figures. This helps separate the general picture from details. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several comparisons are joined in long, loosely connected sentences, such as the sentence beginning “Adults time spent most was in working”. Linking words such as “but” and “while” are used repeatedly and do not always show the relationship clearly. The overview also shifts from 1958 to “2005” and then to 2008, disrupting the comparison. Grouping the increases together and the decreases together, and using clear references such as “by contrast” or “whereas”, would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage”, “working”, “sleeping” and “travelling to work”, and make attempts to describe change with phrases such as “moderate growth” and “dips”. However, several choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, including “adults most time spent”, “three double then perviously” and “decrace”. These errors sometimes make the intended comparison harder to understand. Repeated use of “was” also limits variety. Aim for accurate collocations such as “the proportion spent on work increased” and “the figure for socialising fell”, and check spelling carefully. A more controlled range of verbs for increases and decreases would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “while” and “but”, and the main figures can generally be understood. However, sentence structure and verb forms are often inaccurate. For example, “The pie charts provide information on adults working in a particular country spent their time” lacks a grammatical connection between the clauses, while “Playing sports is same in both years” has errors in the verb phrase and article use. The sentence about work in 2008 also combines several clauses without a clear structure. Use a reliable pattern such as “The proportion of time spent working rose from 33% to 42%,” and check subject–verb agreement, articles, and past-tense forms when describing the charts.
