Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several key figures accurately, including working at 33% and 42%, sleeping at 32% and 25%, and commuting at 2% and 7%. You also attempt an overview by noting that work was the largest category in 2008 and travel was the smallest in 1958. However, the overview is partly inaccurate: in 1958, work (33%) was only slightly higher than sleep (32%), rather than a clear majority, and in 2008 the smallest category was going out with friends or family (6%), not a category you clearly identify. The response also omits the 2008 figure for going out and the 7% for sports. Select the main changes and compare them explicitly, especially the rise in work and travel and the fall in socialising.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate discussion of the two years. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is weakened by awkward or inaccurate linking, such as “Following this,In 2008” and “Further more,” and the final sentence breaks off after “and &,” leaving the comparison unfinished. Some ideas are repeated, particularly the increase in working time, while the 2008 details are not presented in a complete, orderly sequence. Use clear paragraphing and group the figures by year or by the largest changes, then connect comparisons with simple, accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “spent,” “sleeping,” “relaxed” and “travelling to work,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, for example “working efficiency” and “working ability” for the proportion of time spent working, and “visiting their time with families and friends.” Spelling errors such as “mojority,” “freinds” and “famlies” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise, neutral chart language rather than interpreting the figures as punctuality or efficiency. Reusing accurate terms such as “accounted for,” “share,” “rose” and “fell” would make comparisons clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the opening overview uses a subordinate clause beginning “Overall, it can be observed that…”. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “The provided pai charts illustrates,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “2% of adults spent their in travelling,” which has an incomplete grammatical pattern. Articles, plurals and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “in first graph” and the run-together “Following this,In 2008.” The final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and complete sentence patterns, and check each sentence for a clear subject, verb and ending.
