Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important features, including work as the largest category in both years, the fall in sleeping and socialising, and the rise in commuting. The figures for 1958 are mostly reported accurately, and you include the key 2008 values for work, sleep and going out. However, the overview is incomplete: travelling was not the lowest category in 2008, since going out was lower, and sports (7%) is omitted from the comparison. Some details are unclear or inaccurate, such as saying relaxing at home “fall to 13%” when it rose from 8% to 13%, and the statement that sports and travelling were “respectively to each other.” Select the main changes and describe each direction clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for the two years. This helps the reader locate the information. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several linking expressions are used mechanically or do not show the intended relationship. For example, “Whereas” begins a sentence fragment, while “In contrast” and “However” are inserted where a straightforward comparison or addition would be clearer. The 2008 paragraph also moves between changes without explaining the comparison between years. Grouping increases together and decreases together, and using fewer, more precise connectors, would make the account easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “represented,” “dominant,” “declined,” and “accounted for,” and the reader can generally understand the categories being discussed. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For instance, “the most least” is contradictory, “rose by 9%” would be clearer as a rise from 33% to 42% or by 9 percentage points, and “were respectively to each other” does not express a meaningful comparison. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “counrty,” “perroid,” and “repesented.” Aim for accurate, natural phrases for describing proportions and changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use past-tense verbs to describe the charts, but control is inconsistent. Several sentences contain faulty structures that make relationships difficult to understand: “working represented by 33%” lacks a complete verb construction, and “relaxing at home it accounted to 8%” has an unnecessary subject and an incorrect grammatical pattern. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “working rose by 9%.Wheras” and the fragment beginning “Whereas, travelling to work…”. Articles and prepositions are sometimes missing or misplaced. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check punctuation and the grammatical form after verbs such as “account for” and “rise.”
