Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You report most of the chart figures accurately, including the rise in working from 33% to 42%, the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%, and the appearance of sports at 7% in 2008. However, the overview is not clearly stated: the opening mainly introduces the charts, while the later paragraphs list figures rather than summarising the main overall changes. You also say relaxing at home decreased, although it rose from 8% to 13%, and the claim that adults “cannot spent time” playing sports in 1958 is not supported by the chart, which simply does not show a sports category. The advice about health and time management is outside the task. A concise overview highlighting the main increases and decreases, with accurate comparisons, would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable sequence: an introduction, a paragraph about 1958, a comparison with 2008, and a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic overall structure, and the years help signal the shift between the charts. However, progression is weakened because the first body paragraph repeats nearly every figure without grouping or comparing them, and the final paragraph changes to general advice rather than concluding the data summary. Linking phrases such as “Where as” and “In conclusion” are used, but they do not always express the relationship between ideas accurately. Organise the figures into meaningful comparisons—for example, increases in work and commuting versus decreases in sleep and socialising—and use clear references to the two years.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “percentage,” “increase,” “decrease,” “sleeping,” and “working,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, including “this routine of adults,” “addition of 7% playing sports,” and “irrelevant thing.” Some wording also makes the meaning unclear, particularly “that how they spent their time” and “They cannot spent time in playing any sport.” Spelling and form errors such as “Ther” and “traveling” are noticeable, though the latter is an acceptable spelling variant. Aim for precise reporting language, such as “accounted for,” “rose to,” and “fell to,” and avoid personal judgements or advice that do not describe the chart.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes some simple sentence forms and attempts longer structures, but control is inconsistent. Errors include “adults … spent their time … as compare to in 2008,” “They cannot spent time,” and “relaxing at home decrease to 13%,” where tense, verb form, or sentence construction is faulty. Agreement and punctuation also need attention: “these chart define” should use a plural verb, and several sentences run together after commas, as in “In 2008,there is significant change in chart.” Capitalisation is inconsistent, and the conclusion begins with a lower-case “we.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the intended comparisons can usually be recovered. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build clear sentences with one main comparison at a time.
