Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important changes, including the rise in working time from 33% to 42%, the fall in sleeping from 32% to 25%, and the sharp decline in socialising from 19% to 6%. However, the account is only partial: there is no clear overall summary of the main patterns, and the sports figures are inaccurate. Sports is not shown in 1958; the 7% figure applies to 2008. You also say sleeping fell to 23%, rather than 25%. The response is 141 words, below the 150-word minimum, and 14 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Add a concise overview and report the remaining categories accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response follows a broadly sensible order, moving from work and sleep to socialising, relaxing and commuting, so the reader can identify the comparisons being made. However, it lacks paragraphing and a distinct overview, and the ideas are presented as one continuous block. Connections are often mechanical or unclear: “while” joins repeated information about working, and “so” does not clearly express the relationship between work and relaxation. The opening list of six categories also makes the organisation less focused. Separate the introduction, overview and key comparisons into paragraphs, and use linking expressions only where they show a precise relationship between figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant basic terms such as “working,” “sleeping,” “travelling to work” and “increased,” which make the topic generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce clarity, including “famaily,” “decreesed,” “releaxing” and “increassed.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “spend 33 percent time on working” and “sports time.” Use accurate activity labels and standard collocations, for example, “spent 33% of their day working” and “the proportion travelling to work.” Proofreading spelling and choosing more precise reporting vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriate for an academic summary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most of the response uses simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to connect comparisons using “whereas,” “while” and “so.” Frequent errors in sentence formation and basic grammar make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Both chart has 6 division” has problems with subject–verb agreement and number, while “in 1958 people spend” uses the wrong tense for past data. The sentence beginning “Travelling time to work” also has an unclear comparison structure. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, including the missing space after “2008.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build clear comparison sentences before attempting longer, joined structures.
