Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify several relevant activities and report some 1958 figures, including 2% for commuting and 19% for going out with friends or family. However, the response does not summarise the two charts: it gives no figures for 2008 and offers no comparison between the years. The statement that working and sleeping took “almost same time” is broadly supported by their 1958 shares of 33% and 32%, but the overview is incomplete and some wording misrepresents the chart, such as “relaxing at work” rather than relaxing at home. The response is also 55 words below the required minimum. To improve, include a clear overview of the main changes and compare the largest categories in both years, using accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then moving to an overview of 1958. Some information is grouped by activity, and “Moreover” signals an additional point. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the response shifts between an overview and individual details without a clear structure, and it does not organise information across both years. The final sentence repeats a list of activities rather than developing the comparison. Punctuation and spacing also interrupt the flow. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the key comparisons, and connect related figures with clear links such as “by contrast” or “whereas.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “percentages,” “travelling,” “sleeping,” and “going out with friends or family,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or awkward for describing the chart. “During work” does not express the idea of how adults spent their day, while “relaxing at work” changes the chart category from relaxing at home. There are also spelling errors in “activies” and “Morever,” and repetition of “spent” and “people.” Use precise chart language and vary reporting verbs and nouns, for example “accounted for,” “share,” and “proportion.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple statements and a longer sentence beginning “Morever while,” but control is inconsistent and the sentence structures remain limited. Errors include “Its shows,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “People was doing,” which also has incorrect agreement and an unsuitable verb form. The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure, and punctuation is unreliable, with a space before the full stop and missing sentence boundaries in places. These problems sometimes make the intended meaning harder to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build clear comparisons using controlled clauses, such as “In 1958, adults spent 33% of the day working, compared with 42% in 2008.”
