Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts compares how working adults spent their day on various activities among 1958 and 2008.
overall, working and sleeping took up the major proportion of the days in both years. However, tge travelling tine to work increased dramatically in later year, while the time spent in going out with friends and family dropped drastically.
In 1958, most time of the days was spent on Working and sleeping taking up 33% and 32% of the time respectively. Traveling to work took only 2% of the time, so 19% of the time could be allocated to friends and family. and rest of the time was spent on relaxing and playing sports, taking around 8% and 7% of the day respectively.
in 2008, although Working and sleeping was the main to aspects where time was spent, Working time increased incredibly to 42%, while sleeping time reduced to 25%. travel time increased dramatically to 7% while the proportion for friends and family declined to 6%. 13% of the day was assigned for relaxing at home while only 6% time remained for friends and family.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main pattern accurately: work and sleep account for the largest shares in both years, while commuting rises and socialising falls. The figures you give for these activities, as well as relaxing at home, match the charts. However, the overview is incomplete because it does not mention the new sports category in 2008, and the body contains a factual inconsistency: you say that 7% of 1958 was spent playing sports, although the chart shows no sports category for that year. The final sentence also repeats the 6% figure for friends and family rather than adding a distinct comparison. To strengthen the response, select the key changes accurately and make the overview cover all notable features, including the appearance of sports in 2008.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of 1958 and 2008. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and linking words such as “However,” “while” and “although” help show contrasts. Some cohesion is less controlled: the final sentence repeats the 6% socialising figure already given, and “and rest of the time” does not clearly connect the activities that follow. The overview also groups the main trends but does not fully preview the sports category. For a more effective progression, avoid repeating data and use each paragraph to add a distinct comparison or feature.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “declined,” “increased” and “allocated,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at stronger descriptive language, such as “increased dramatically” and “dropped drastically,” though these intensifiers are repeated and can sound overstated for neutral chart reporting. Some word choices and collocations are awkward, for example “the main to aspects” and “time could be allocated to friends and family.” Spelling slips such as “tge” and “tine” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, neutral expressions and check spelling; for example, use “the two main activities” and “the share spent socialising.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “although” and a sentence using “while” to compare trends. These structures help communicate the main information, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening has subject–verb disagreement (“The pie charts compares”), and “among 1958 and 2008” uses an unsuitable preposition. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary problems in “Working and sleeping was the main to aspects,” while the lowercase starts after full stops and the fragment-like “and rest of the time” affect punctuation and sentence control. Review agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence while retaining the useful range of structures you already attempt.
