Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two years and report several relevant figures, including working (33% to 43%), sleeping (32% to 25%), socialising (19% to 6%), and relaxing at home (8% to 13%). These comparisons show an attempt to select key information. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: working rose to 42%, not 43%, and it was the largest category in 2008, while sleeping was the largest in 1958. The statement that travelling was the “lower number” in both charts overlooks that going out was lower in 2008, and sports is mentioned without clarifying that it appears only in 2008. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would make the main features easier to understand.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response includes an opening and an overall comment, and it generally moves through the activities in a recognisable order. However, the information is presented as one long paragraph, so comparisons and the overview are not clearly separated. Linking words such as “however,” “on the other hand,” and repeated “and” are used mechanically; some do not express a clear contrast. For example, the sentence beginning “It can be clearly seen” combines several categories and changes of trend without clear boundaries. Grouping the data into paragraphs—first giving an overview, then comparing the main increases and decreases—would create a clearer progression and make the relationships between figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary such as “spent their time,” “decreased,” “increased,” and “travelling to work,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or repetitive, including “the intrest of people,” “adults people spend their time,” and “higher number both pie chart.” Spelling errors such as “intrest,” “increasd,” and “precent” also make the writing less clear. Aim for precise chart language and natural collocations, for example, “the proportion of time spent working rose” rather than describing an “interest” in working. Varying verbs and using accurate category labels would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, using forms such as “while” and “however,” but these structures are often faulty or difficult to follow. For example, “the intrest of people increasd to 43 percent in to 2008” has problems with sentence construction and prepositions, while “And playing sports was same number in same year” lacks a clear grammatical relationship to the comparison. There are also recurring issues with articles, agreement, verb forms, and punctuation, as in “The given pie chart show” and “people spend.” Most sentences therefore do not show reliable control. Practise writing shorter, complete comparison sentences first, then combine them with accurate clauses and punctuation.
