Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main pattern that work takes the largest share in both years, and you report several relevant figures accurately, including work at 33% and 42%, sleeping at 32% and 25%, and travel at 2% and 7%. However, the overview is brief and does not clearly summarise the major changes: work and travel increased, while sleeping and socialising declined. The statement that relaxing at home in 1958 was “almost same” as travel is misleading, since the figures are 8% and 2%. Also, the 2008 comparison of relaxing at home with sleeping as “almost same” overlooks the 12-point gap. A clearer overview and more accurate comparisons would make the key features more fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for 1958 and 2008. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “followed by,” “however,” and “in addition” help show relationships between figures. Some connections are less clear or mechanically expressed, particularly “among other expect relaxing at home” and “which is almost same,” where the intended comparison is difficult to identify. The overview also repeats the idea that work is highest without setting out the overall changes across the two years. Organise the body around clear comparisons and use linking phrases only when their relationship is precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “followed by,” and “accounted for,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. For example, “working mature adults” is not a natural description, “working was accounted by” is an inaccurate collocation, and “relaxing as home” appears where “relaxing at home” is intended. There are also spelling errors such as “piechart” and “frinds.” Use standard chart language consistently, and check spelling and collocations so that comparisons are expressed naturally and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the reader can usually understand the figures being compared. However, grammatical control is uneven, with recurring errors in sentence structure, articles, agreement, and verb forms. The opening sentence, “the two piechart illustrates the proportion … spent their time,” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the adults and the time spent. Phrases such as “in the both year” and “working is the one of the most highest” also show problems with articles and sentence construction. Some punctuation and spacing around percentages are inconsistent. Practise building accurate comparison sentences, for example, “In 1958, adults spent 33% of the day working, compared with 42% in 2008.”
