Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant figures, including working rising from 33% to 42%, sleeping falling from 32% to 25%, and travelling increasing from 2% to 7%. You also note that going out with friends and family declined to 6% and that sports appears in 2008. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “working had increasted in 1958” does not describe the change between years, and travelling did not decline. The response gives mostly separate figures rather than clearly highlighting the main overall shifts, and the 2008 comparison could be more precise. It is also four words below the 150-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a clear overview and a little more comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, useful structure: an opening overview followed by one paragraph for each year. This makes the two sets of figures reasonably easy to locate. However, progression within the overview is difficult to follow, as in “The decline had travelling to work .when 2008 had working had higest,” and the repeated openings “In context of 1958” and “In context of 2008” make the organisation mechanical. Connections between comparisons are limited, so the reader must infer how the years relate. Use a concise overview that states the main changes, then group related figures—for example, increases together and decreases together—and use clear linking phrases to show contrasts.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “pie charts,” “percentage,” “highest,” “lowest,” and activity labels, so the basic subject is understandable. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the report less clear, such as “woeking,” “increasted,” “sellping,” and “activites.” Phrases such as “working was high activities” and “the low adults activities” are not natural ways to describe chart data. Aim for accurate collocations such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the smallest proportion.” Check spelling carefully and vary repeated terms like “around” and “activities” to make comparisons more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt an overview and several comparison sentences, but the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors affect clarity. For example, “Overall it is clear that working had increasted in 1958” has an unclear time relationship, while “when 2008 had working had higest” contains faulty clause structure. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “working was high activities for adults,” and punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and unnecessary spaces before punctuation. Build accurate simple sentences first, such as “The proportion of time spent working rose from 33% to 42%.” Then practise combining comparisons with “while” or “whereas,” checking verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries.
