Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the two years and report the broad rise in working and commuting, so the response is relevant to the charts. However, the overview is incomplete and one key statement is inaccurate: working was the largest category in 2008, but in 1958 sleeping (32%) was almost equal to working (33%), rather than there being a clear “biggest percentage” for work. The commuting share rose from 2% to 7%, which is more than triple, not approximately triple. You omit major changes such as the fall in socialising from 19% to 6% and sleeping from 32% to 25%, as well as sports appearing in 2008. The response is also 61 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 14 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a fuller overview and accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the charts, gives a general statement, and then mentions work and travel. The contrast signalled by “but then” also shows an attempt to connect the years. However, the ideas are not arranged into a clear, complete summary, and the short response gives no developed grouping or comparison of the other activities. “Overall” introduces a broad overview, but the following sentence repeats the idea that the charts show activities rather than summarising their main patterns. The run-together punctuation in “people. In” further interrupts the flow. Organise the answer into an introduction, a concise overview, and detail paragraphs comparing the main increases and decreases, using clear links such as “whereas” and “by contrast.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant basic vocabulary, including “percentage,” “activities,” “increased,” and “travel,” and the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, especially “this figure increased” and “spent their time in working.” “A biggest percentage” is also an awkward way to describe a chart category, while “approximately by triple” does not express the comparison naturally. The spelling error “thier” is noticeable. Use precise chart language and vary the verbs and nouns—for example, describe a share as rising, falling, accounting for, or making up a proportion. Check spelling and collocations when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts a few sentence forms, including a contrast with “but then,” and the main message is usually understandable. However, the range is very limited, and frequent errors in agreement and sentence construction reduce accuracy. In “The pie charts below presents,” the plural subject requires “present”; “this pie charts shows” has the same agreement problem. “Activities that was done” also has incorrect agreement and an awkward passive construction. The phrase “there was a biggest percentage” has an article error, and “people. In” needs a space after the full stop. Practise accurate plural subjects and verb forms, and build comparisons with controlled structures such as “The share of adults working rose from … to …, while …”.
