Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You include figures for both years and identify several relevant categories, including work, sleep, travel and socialising. However, the response does not clearly summarise the main overall changes: working rose from 33% to 42%, while sleeping and going out fell, and travelling and relaxing at home increased. The opening overview is unclear and focuses on isolated figures rather than these broad comparisons. Some descriptions are also difficult to interpret, such as “in 2008 represent the increasing the percent of grown ups,” and the final claim that percentages “rise” is inaccurate as a general summary because several categories declined. A clearer overview and more direct comparisons between years would make the key features more fully addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview-like paragraph and separate sections for 1958 and 2008. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited because the overview repeats individual details rather than establishing the main trends, and the year-by-year paragraphs mostly list figures without linking them through comparisons. Connectors such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other hand” are used, but some do not express a clear relationship between the ideas that follow. For example, “On the other hand” introduces a list rather than a contrast. Grouping related increases and decreases, and using clearer links between the two years, would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentages,” “travelling,” “relaxing,” and “playing sports,” and the reader can recognise most activity categories. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “the operation of 33%” for working, “laboring” for working, “relxing at hometown,” and “resting” for sleeping. There are also spelling errors such as “othewr” and “catagories.” Use the chart’s category labels consistently and choose precise verbs such as “accounted for,” “increased,” and “declined” to describe the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few longer structures, but most sentences rely on simple lists or fragments, so grammatical control is limited. Errors in sentence formation and verb patterns occur throughout: “the graph chart demonstrate” lacks agreement, “in 1958 describe” has no clear grammatical subject, and “in 2008 represent the increasing” is not a complete, well-formed clause. Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “the percentages of the days” and “various activity.” These problems sometimes obscure the intended comparisons. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and verb—for example, “In 1958, working accounted for 33% of the day”—and check agreement and tense in each clause.
