Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies a few relevant figures, including travel to work rising from 2% to 7% and sleeping falling from 32% to 25%. However, it addresses the task only minimally: most categories are omitted, and there is no clear overview of the main changes across the two years. The overview sentence is also inaccurate, confusing the 1958 and 2008 figures and describing 6% as “travelling with family and friends,” when it refers to going out with friends or family. The response is 107 words, below the required 150, which further limits the coverage and development of the summary. To improve, give a concise overview of the major shifts, then compare the key categories accurately using figures from both charts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then moving to an overall statement and specific comparisons. The references to 1958 and 2008 also give the reader some sense of sequence. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview combines several figures unclearly, and the final sentence ends without completing the comparison or developing the remaining categories. Linking phrases such as “Started with” and “now forward to” are awkward and do not clearly signal the relationship between ideas. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for the overview and details, and connect comparisons with straightforward expressions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “proportion,” “fraction,” “travelling to work,” and “sleeping,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “working maturd guys,” “dedicated time,” and “largest ratio.” These expressions make the description less precise, while spelling errors such as “activites” and “decrerased” are noticeable. Aim for standard chart language and accurate collocations, for example, “the proportion of time spent working” and “the figure for sleeping decreased.” A wider set of verbs for describing changes would also help make comparisons clearer and less repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to form longer sentences and use past-tense comparisons, as in “it was reached 7% at 2008” and “it was decreased at 25%.” These attempts show some awareness of how to describe change, but the structures are often faulty and can make the intended meaning unclear. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction: “The two pie chart illustrates” should use a plural subject and verb, while “the largest ratio of working 33%” lacks a clear grammatical structure. The final sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate simple comparison patterns first, such as “The proportion travelling to work rose from 2% in 1958 to 7% in 2008,” then add more varied structures once these are secure.
