Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie chart shows the percentage between 1958 to 2008.If we compare these charts we can clearly see that in 2008 peoples work more than 1958.

Firstly we can see the difference between those peoples who are going with friends and family 19% ratio in 1958. On the other hand 6% ratio are the poeples who going out with family and friends in 2008.

We can clearly differentiate the ratio between 1958 to 2008 in a various forms like travling to work, sleeping, relaxing at home and working. Here i describe ratio in 1958,travling to work 90%, sleeping 32%, relaxing at home 8% and working 33%, while in 2008 travling to work 7%, sleeping 25%, relaxing at home 13% and working 42% withe the addition of playing sports 7%. In conclusion i reached the point that is some case the ratio in 2008 is going up in working as compare to 1958.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant categories and report many figures accurately, including work (33% to 42%), sleep (32% to 25%), and socialising (19% to 6%). However, the response only partially summarises the charts: it lacks a clear overview of the main changes, and most figures are listed rather than compared or interpreted. The statement that people worked more in 2008 is relevant, but the conclusion repeats this point without drawing together the other major trends, such as the rise in commuting and relaxing at home. There is also a significant factual error: travelling to work in 1958 was 2%, not 90%. Select the most important changes, give an accurate overview, and compare the figures directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with a general statement, discusses going out, then lists other activities before concluding. Basic linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, progression is limited, and the middle section becomes a long list of figures rather than a clearly grouped comparison. The repeated wording “we can clearly see” and “we can clearly differentiate” also makes the links feel mechanical. Improve the flow by using a separate overview and grouping related changes—for example, activities that increased versus those that decreased—and connect each comparison clearly to both years.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant activity terms, including “working,” “sleeping,” “relaxing at home,” and “going out with friends and family,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, such as “peoples,” “ratio” for percentages, and “in a various forms.” There are also spelling errors, including “travling” and “poeples,” which reduce clarity and control. Use precise chart language such as “the proportion of time,” “accounted for,” and “increased/decreased,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “clearly see”; a wider range of accurate reporting verbs would make the summary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and many sentences contain errors that make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “The pie chart shows the percentage between 1958 to 2008” has an unclear grammatical structure, while “in 2008 peoples work more than 1958” lacks correct agreement and comparison structure. The long sentence beginning “Here i describe ratio in 1958” also has weak punctuation and sentence boundaries. Use straightforward, accurate patterns such as “The charts compare how adults spent their time in 1958 and 2008” and “The proportion spent working rose from 33% to 42%.” Check articles, verb forms, and punctuation when joining clauses.
