Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the broad topic and make two relevant observations: work accounts for the largest share in 2008, and sleeping takes a smaller share than in 1958. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: it gives no detailed comparison of the charts and omits important features, including the rise in working time from 33% to 42%, the fall in going out from 19% to 6%, and the new sports category. The claim that travelling is the lowest in 1958 is accurate, but it is not developed with figures. The response is also 77 words below the required minimum, leaving too little space to summarise the main data. Include a clear overview and several accurate comparisons supported by percentages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic order: it introduces the charts and then gives an overall statement, with “Overall” and “However” signalling a contrast between years. This provides some organisation, but there is no developed progression from an overview to supporting details; the response ends after two sentences and does not group or compare the activities systematically. The contrast introduced by “However” is also not fully explained, since the 2008 figures are not reported. Improve cohesion by using a short introduction, a distinct overview, and one or two detail paragraphs organised around the main increases and decreases. Keep linking words accurate and avoid joining long statements without clear punctuation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the general subject, using relevant terms such as “percentages,” “activities,” “working,” “travelling,” and “sleeping.” However, the range is limited and some choices are unnatural or imprecise for describing chart data. For example, adults do not usually “rely on working,” and “interested in working activities” suggests preference rather than the proportion of time spent working. Repetition of “adults,” “working,” and “activities” also limits variety. Use precise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “spent,” “share,” and “rose/fell,” while retaining the chart’s category labels. This will make comparisons clearer without requiring overly complex vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both a longer introductory sentence and a contrast between the years, so there is some sentence variety. However, the structures are not consistently controlled. In “Overall,in 1958…” and “However,in 2008…,” punctuation and spacing around introductory words are missing, and the second sentence runs several ideas together. The phrase “the percentage of sleeping was reducing as compare to 1958” has an awkward tense construction and an incorrect comparison pattern. Use a direct form such as “the proportion of time spent sleeping fell compared with 1958.” Check commas after linking expressions, use complete comparisons, and favour clear, controlled sentences when reporting figures.
