Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you consider competition positive, and you give relevant examples involving students and athletes. The response also explains possible benefits, such as confidence, encouragement and participation in activities. However, the discussion only partly develops the question of how competition affects behaviour towards friends and classmates. For example, the claim that it “strengthen[s] the bond” is not explained with a specific situation, and the paragraph beginning “On the other hand” describes encouragement rather than presenting a clear contrasting effect. The conclusion repeats the main view but adds little support. To strengthen the response, explain each benefit through a clear cause-and-effect example and make the link to relationships between peers explicit throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can identify your overall positive position. You also use signposting such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion.” However, the ideas do not progress consistently: the second body paragraph begins as a contrast but continues to support the positive view, so the relationship between the paragraphs is unclear. Some sentences are also difficult to connect, particularly “If someone feel inferior…” followed by “They provide help them…”. Repeated references to confidence, goals and competition make the development feel circular. Organise the body around distinct reasons, and use linking phrases that accurately show whether an idea is an example, result or contrast.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general argument, including “competition,” “confidence,” “classmates,” “ambitions” and “physical activity.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to follow. For instance, “a good qualities,” “take participate” and “clear any game” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “first division in avery terms” is also unclear. Repetition of “goals,” “competition” and “help” limits precision. Build a more accurate set of collocations for discussing achievement and peer relationships, and check whether each phrase conveys your intended meaning. More precise wording would make your examples clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “if someone feel inferior” and a result clause beginning “In this way.” However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “Competition among people are” and “It also have”; articles and singular forms are also problematic in “a individual.” The sentence “They provide help them” has an unclear structure, while “Because it can help…” is an incomplete sentence after the preceding full stop. These patterns show that complex structures are not yet controlled reliably. Practise checking agreement, articles and sentence boundaries, and make sure each clause has a clear subject and verb before adding further clauses.
