Student answer (Band 5.5)

The trend of performing better in every aspects of life including games, academics and liesure activities is increasing significantly among the individuals. It affects the way people treat each other in everyday life. While, people challenging their own colleagues and class fellows give them a reason to grow in their life, it introduces hate between each other which can affect long term relationships.

On the one hand, taking challenge againt any individuals give reasons to learn new skill and achieve target goals. Those who take it seriously will give evry effort to try learn things and work harder to beat the opponent. As a result, this ultimately will help them to reach new hieghts in their life. For example, students participating in school competition will work hard to beat others and win the reward making him praised by the society. Furthurmore, when a individual will do better even after challenging thier batchmates, it will be beneficial for the community and country where thry are living.

On the other hand, this trend could bring some negative effects on the individual relationships and their life. When two best friends or cllassmates compete with each other, they could bring hate in themselves for one another. Therefore, possibility of ending a good relation and increasing chances of fighting and arguments. For instance, when one friend get selected in school or university team, others get jealous of him and start hating him due to his success.

In conclusion, Although competitions between friends improves hard working skill and gives reasons to perfform well, I believe challenging own classmates and friends could create several problems between them resulting affects on their relations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the issue and give a clear overall view: competition can encourage effort, but you believe it may damage relationships. The examples about students working to win a school competition and a friend becoming jealous help make your points relevant. However, the positive argument is more fully explained than the negative one: the claim that competition benefits the community and country is asserted without showing how, while the relationship example could explain more clearly how rivalry leads to conflict. Your conclusion restates your position, though “resulting affects on their relations” makes the final consequence unclear. Develop each main idea with a more specific explanation and ensure the conclusion expresses the same position precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for positive and negative effects, and a conclusion. This makes the line of argument easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” guide the reader. The examples are generally placed beside the points they support. To make the progression more fluent, improve links between some sentences: “Therefore, possibility of ending a good relation…” is a fragment rather than a complete continuation, and the shift from individual achievement to benefits for a country is abrupt. Pronouns such as “him” after referring to students generally also make reference less clear. Use cohesive links more naturally and connect each example explicitly to its claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “compete,” “opponent,” “jealous,” “relationships,” and “achieve,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “reach new heights.” However, the range and control are limited by repeated or imprecise wording, including “give reasons,” “do better,” and “bring hate.” Several spelling errors—“liesure,” “againt,” “evry,” “hieghts,” and “Furthurmore”—are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “take challenge” and “win the reward.” Build a wider set of accurate collocations for competition and its effects, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “While” and a conditional structure in “When two best friends or classmates compete…”. This shows some range, but control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “While, people challenging their own colleagues…” is not a complete, correctly formed clause, and “Therefore, possibility of ending…” is a sentence fragment. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms: “competitions…improves,” “a individual,” and “one friend get selected.” Articles and plural forms need attention as well. Practise building complete clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb forms; this will make your meaning clearer while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
