In many countries not enough students are choosing to study science at university. What are the causes of this? What effects does it have on society?
Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
The importance of study science at university is always very debatable. Which was always very debatable but now become more controversial with many people claiming that it is beneficial while the other claiming that reject this notion. The substanceial influence of this trend has sparked the controversy over the potential impact in recent years. In my opinion that former preposition appears to be more rationale. This essay will further elaborate my views for favouring the negative impact of not choosing the science to study. This will lead to a logical explanation and conclusion.
Analysing the statement and explaining further the first and the foremost reason behind this is that the students don't get the enough opportunities in this flied and also this field in getting more expensive according to the fee structure. Another striking impact in is that, this flied is not paying more. I have my own experience in this. I choose to study science in university, but when it time to do the research in specific area. There is no support and enough funding to support my work so, at the end choose to change my topic. Categorically discussing, it cannot be ignored that the main reason behind this is that there is no support from the government and also after getting the work done there is no acknowledgement or recognization. From my perspective that's the reason most of the students are not choosing science. Apart from the reasons mentioned above it can be clearly state that why are not students choosing this.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response makes a relevant attempt to discuss why students avoid science, mentioning limited opportunities, high fees, low pay, and insufficient government funding. The personal example about lacking research support also gives one idea some context. However, the task asks for both causes and effects on society, and the response focuses almost entirely on possible causes and students’ experiences. It does not explain broader social consequences, such as skills shortages, slower technological progress, or reduced capacity to address public problems. The opening also introduces a debate about whether the trend is beneficial, rather than establishing a clear answer to the question. To improve, state the causes and societal effects directly, then develop each with a relevant explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response, with an opening, a discussion of reasons, and linking expressions such as “Another striking impact” and “Apart from the reasons mentioned above.” The personal research example also follows the point about limited support. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow: the introduction repeats the idea of controversy, the body shifts between causes and impacts without clearly distinguishing them, and the conclusion does not summarise an answer to both parts of the question. Some linking phrases are used mechanically or do not accurately signal the next idea. Use clear paragraphs for the causes and societal effects, and make each paragraph develop one central point in a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response attempts some topic-related vocabulary, including “research,” “funding,” “fee structure,” and “government,” and uses a few more formal expressions such as “potential impact.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled choices make meaning less clear. Examples include “substanceial,” “preposition” where “position” is intended, “flied” for “field,” and “recognization.” Phrases such as “not paying more” are also unclear in context. These problems sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended point. Build a more accurate set of expressions for causes and social consequences, and check spelling, word forms, and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “when,” and “because,” but these structures are often faulty, and many sentences contain errors that can make the message difficult to follow. For example, “Which was always very debatable but now become more controversial” is an incomplete sentence with an incorrect verb form, while “I choose to study science … but when it time” has tense and clause-structure problems. There are also recurring issues with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “the students don't get the enough opportunities” and “there is no support and enough funding to support my work so, at the end choose to change my topic.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add complex clauses with correct verb forms and punctuation.
