Student answer (Band 5.0)
In this topic, we will discuss that students in many countries are not choosing science subjects at the university. This will lead to a positive as well as negative impact on the society. We will explain the advantages and disadvantages that enough students are not enrolling in science related subjets. We will talk about the cause and effect for it and how we can improve the mindset of students.
First of all, selecting different subjects other than science is not a bad thing. Students studying different field i.e arts, literature, media can also benefit the society. However, previous generation parents puts pressure on the students to learn engineering and medical fields due to the lack of exposure to other fields. Due to this problem, students gets pressure and eventually fed up and leave the science fields and starts learning the studies they are least interested in.
One of the other reasons for quiting the science subjects is that institutes are focusing on its business and competition with their rivals which lessens the prime focus to students to motivate them to excel in their fields and become scientists and make new inventions which helps to grow the society.
I believe we should let our students to choose their subjects wisely by giving them a sense of responsibility and fully exposure to different fields during their studies. It will help them to choose their studies in an appropriate manner, wheather it is science or other. This way they will become best in their fields and grow with the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify a possible cause—parental pressure to pursue engineering or medicine—and suggest that students may leave science when they feel pressured. However, the response only partially answers the question. The effects on society are not clearly explained: references to “new inventions” and helping society grow are brief and do not show what a shortage of science graduates could mean in practice. The opening also shifts the task into discussing the “advantages and disadvantages” of not studying science, which is not what the prompt asks, and the conclusion focuses on how students should choose rather than summarising the causes and social effects. Develop each part directly, for example by explaining how fewer science graduates could affect healthcare, technology, or research.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “One of the other reasons” help signal the movement between points. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear because the introduction promises advantages and disadvantages, while the body mainly discusses causes and the conclusion gives advice. The second body paragraph introduces institutional competition, but its connection to the shortage of science students is not fully explained. Some linking is also repetitive or awkward, particularly the repeated use of “Due to” and “This way.” Make each paragraph serve one clear part of the question and use explicit links to show how each cause or effect follows.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “engineering,” “medical fields,” “scientists,” and “inventions,” and you attempt more specific expressions such as “lack of exposure” and “sense of responsibility.” This gives you enough language to communicate the general subject. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “fed up,” “prime focus to students,” and “fully exposure.” Spelling errors such as “subjets,” “quiting,” and “wheather” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check word forms and spelling. For instance, describe students as “losing interest in science” rather than “fed up,” and say institutions should “focus on supporting students” rather than “focus to students.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including a complex explanation beginning “However, previous generation parents…” and a conditional sentence with “It will help them…”. Meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms recur. Examples include “parents puts,” “students gets,” and “which helps,” where the subject and verb do not agree. In “Students studying different field,” the plural noun is needed, while “the society” uses an unnecessary article in this context. The sentence about institutions is also difficult to control because several ideas are joined together. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, and divide long sentences when their relationships become unclear.
