Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has been significant shift in the students in many countries that are not choosing science subjects at universities and the various reasons for this have been in debate for a long time and what possible impact that it would have on the society in the future.

The reasons enough students are not choosing science at universiy level are numrous but some of them are that first of all science degrees require exceptional grades to get in and after that the courses to study are more complicated and demand longer study hours which is kind of hectic for students. The other possible reason could be the less vages in the science fields as compare to others fields of future such as AI and arts and designer fields wich are now more chooseable for students and easy to accomplish with much higher pay scale.

The drawbakcs of students not preffering to study science on the society would be darastic as if the students would not choose these subjects there would be lesser number of doctors for increasing population as well as raising number of multiple diseases and same go for engineers as the demand for them is increasing day by day with growing need of human for structural and technological developmet.

In conclusion, more emphasize should be given to student regarding choosing the science by parents and teachers by educating students about the growing progression in these fields and the significance of these fields in the world and how they can shape and contribute to humanity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify demanding entry requirements and study workloads as causes, and explain that fewer doctors and engineers could affect society. These points are relevant and your conclusion reinforces the importance of science. However, some ideas are more fully addressed than others. The claim that science offers lower wages than fields such as AI and design is not explained or supported, and the effects on society are mainly limited to shortages of two professions. Develop the consequences further—for example, how fewer science graduates could slow medical research, technological innovation, or responses to environmental problems—and add a specific example to support a key point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on effects, and a conclusion. This makes the main progression easy to follow, and phrases such as “The other possible reason” help signal a new cause. The organisation is effective, though some linking is mechanical, particularly “first of all” and “In conclusion,” and the opening sentence is long and difficult to follow. Within paragraphs, make the relationship between claims clearer: for instance, explain how demanding courses lead students to choose other subjects. Use clearer sentence boundaries and more precise referencing so that each point connects smoothly to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “exceptional grades,” “structural and technological development,” and “contribute to humanity.” This gives you some range beyond basic terms. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, as in “universiy,” “numrous,” “vages,” “drawbakcs,” and “preffering.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear, such as “more chooseable” and “higher pay scale.” Aim to use accurate academic collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe courses as “demanding” and career options as “more attractive” rather than relying on informal or invented forms. More precise vocabulary would make your arguments easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if the students would not choose these subjects there would be lesser number of doctors.” However, several sentences contain grammatical errors or awkward constructions, and the long opening sentence is difficult to parse. Examples include “There has been significant shift” (missing an article), “as compare to others fields” (incorrect comparison structure and plural form), and “the demand for them is increasing … with growing need” (missing an article). The conditional would be clearer as “If students do not choose these subjects, there will be fewer doctors.” Work on articles, plurals, comparison patterns, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
