Student answer (Band 7.0)
In recent years, limited students are enrolling to study science at university. In my view, this problem is primarily caused by students reliance on other easy subjects and science required higher attention of students. This essay will examine these underlying causes and propose practical measures to reduce unequal subject selection, thereby increasing innovations and encourage nation's development.
The issue has led to several serious problems in modern society. One major problem is students often choose less challenging subjects, which may have limited educational burden and easy job access. For example, student focuses on subjects such as, language, history, art, and dance, allow them to complete within a certain time with a limited education pressure. Another significant concern is high demands of science-related subjects, as it required full attendance, everyday compulsory on-campus study, discipline and associated responsibilities after completion of course.
With increasing dependency on other subject than science can lead to serious issues on individuals and society as a whole. Firstly, it may weaken science-related field such as medical and engineering, which directly impact on not only economy of the country but also hider the innovations. For example, during recent pandemic of Covid-19 science subject and related fields like medicine and pharmacy play a crucial role in development of vaccines. Secondly, science subject is also an essential in infrastructural development of a nation. Subsequently, a country with limited science students may have detrimental effect on the overall development.
In conclusion, although, the problems cannot be overlooked as they also have negative impacts on people and their surroundings. In my opinion, governments should implement educational campaigns for students to overcome these problems and parents should take the responsibility to support their children for completing such challenging subjects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (perceived difficulty of science vs. easier subjects) and effects (impact on innovation and national development). The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why science requires 'full attendance' is a bit simplistic and could have been expanded with more depth regarding the nature of laboratory work or academic rigor. While the main points are relevant, the supporting arguments occasionally lack the depth required for a higher band. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into four paragraphs with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One major problem', 'Another significant concern', and 'Firstly' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'With increasing dependency on other subject than science can lead to...'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the connection between sentences could be smoother in the second body paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'infrastructural development', 'pandemic', and 'innovations'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'limited students' (should be 'few students') and 'hider the innovations' (should be 'hinder'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Some phrasing is repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'subjects' and 'problems'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'science required higher attention', 'science subject is also an essential'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are minor errors, such as the unnecessary comma in 'subjects such as, language'. Despite these errors, the meaning is rarely obscured, and the reader can follow the argument without significant difficulty. More attention to verb tenses and pluralization would improve the accuracy.
