Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. The ideas are relevant, such as the difficulty of the subjects and the economic impact on GDP. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding the medical sector is slightly illogical, as the claim that a lack of science students leads to more sickness and death is a significant overgeneralization and lacks a clear causal link. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more nuanced to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited by some sweeping statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In a nutshell', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Despite of this' (which is grammatically incorrect) and 'result in, people get more sick'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, which slightly hinders the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'science milestone innovations', 'plethora competition', and 'death ratio inclined'. The phrase 'cup of the tea of everyone' is an incorrect use of an idiom. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary, the inaccuracies in word choice and collocation are noticeable and occasionally impede the clarity of the message. A wider range of academic vocabulary would be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('science course have', 'countries should not able to'), incorrect preposition usage ('turned away form'), and awkward phrasing ('it is irrefutable to say that without having a science milestone innovations are possible'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
