Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and effects—but the development is limited. While you identify job opportunities as a factor, the explanation of how this affects society is underdeveloped and somewhat repetitive. The ideas lack depth; for instance, the mention of 'AI and Machine learning' is not clearly linked to the broader societal impact of a decline in science graduates. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a clear, logical progression of ideas with specific examples that directly answer the 'why' and 'how' of the prompt. Your position is generally clear, but the arguments need more substantial support to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. While you use some cohesive devices like 'on the one hand' and 'to conclude', their usage is sometimes mechanical or slightly misused. The transition between ideas is not always smooth, making it difficult for the reader to follow your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one, rather than restating the same point multiple times.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. You rely on basic terms like 'things', 'subjects', and 'openings'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'obtaining to study' (instead of 'choosing to study') and 'make a great announcements'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to education and career development, and pay closer attention to how words are typically paired together in English.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'subjects that offers'), punctuation errors (e.g., spaces before commas), and awkward sentence construction. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structure and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency.
