Student answer (Band 5.5)

In most of the sates, many youths are not interested in science subject to study at university. This might be due to short of finance and it may lead to the lack of innovation in the nation.

One of the substantial reason behind this issue is the lack of sponsorship. Many students graduate their intermediate level of education on science hoping that they might create their career in that field. but the courses of science are more expensive a part from other subject. As a result, it may lead to the lack of finance for the higher level of education. For instance, an ordinary parents with lower level of income can not afford higher level of education on science subject to their children which directly impact on their study.

Consequently, this problem may create the another problem in the nation and that is obviously lack of innovation. Most of the innovation are held by the science. Since students are not doing their degree then there will be lack of utilizing the sources such as intellectual and physical. There will no be creation and researches anymore. In conclusion, most of the learners are not graduating their university in science subject due to short of sponsorship. it will definitely have negative impact on the innovation of the nation. If the state take the serious steps, this will be solved.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the causes (financial constraints) and the effects (lack of innovation). However, the development is somewhat limited. The ideas are presented but lack depth; for instance, the explanation of why science is more expensive than other subjects is missing, and the link between the lack of research and the broader societal impact is somewhat repetitive. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments would benefit from more specific examples or a more nuanced exploration of the consequences beyond just 'lack of innovation'. The response meets the minimum length requirement, but the ideas remain at a surface level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Consequently', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'a part from other subject' or 'create the another problem'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to better link the cause to the effect.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'lack of', 'science', and 'innovation'. Some word choices are unnatural or incorrect, such as 'short of finance' instead of 'financial constraints', 'graduate their intermediate level' instead of 'complete their secondary education', and 'ordinary parents' instead of 'low-income families'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and occasional misuse of collocations limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'In most of the sates' (spelling/article error), 'science subject to study' (awkward phrasing), 'an ordinary parents' (subject-verb agreement), and 'if there is no researches' (pluralization error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with capitalization and sentence boundaries. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and the frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
