Student answer (Band 5.0)

different it fields, no job opportunities, earning source is important, scope of science narrow down, loose interest in science, shift towards different designing , IT

In recent years, it has been argued that the only few students are opting a subject of science in university. As I strongly believe that students are loosing their interests in the field of science due to many reasons.

First, the scope of IT is the primary reason of not choosing a science. Because the trend has changed over the time and students take interest in multiple disciplines of academics. For example, my cousin chose IT in the replacement of science because this subject is significantly boring, according to her perspective. Therefore, it shows that changing the trend is main factor to not mostly choose the science in university.

Second, a lack of job opportunities in science is another source to not opt science in university. Because every student wants a good job opportunity in his career. For instance, there are significant jobs in the field of IT, as my cousins are earning through IT sector. As a result, a lack of job opportunities is also factor to not select science.

In conclusion, majority of students is highly appreciating other fields like IT, fashion designing etc. because it have different job opportunities. In my opinion , departments of science need to maintain decorum of science so that the opportunities of jobs may available for students

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and effects), but the development is insufficient. The ideas are repetitive, focusing almost exclusively on the popularity of IT rather than exploring broader societal implications of a decline in science graduates. The response is also under the 250-word minimum, which significantly limits the depth of the argument. The conclusion introduces a vague suggestion about 'maintaining decorum' which is not clearly linked to the previous points. To improve, you must expand on the societal consequences, such as the impact on medical research, technological innovation, or national economic development, and ensure the word count requirement is met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, starting sentences with 'Because' is grammatically incorrect in this context and disrupts the flow. The transition between the causes and the effects is weak, as the essay fails to clearly distinguish between the two. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression of ideas feels repetitive rather than building a logical argument. Using a wider variety of linking words like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'as a result' would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'job opportunities' and 'field of science' are used repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'opt a subject of science' (should be 'opt for a science subject') and 'maintain decorum of science' (which does not fit the context). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas about academic trends or societal impacts. You should aim to use more precise academic terminology and avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'majority of students is' (should be 'are') and 'it have different job opportunities' (should be 'they have'). Articles are frequently misused or omitted, such as 'the only few students' and 'not opt science'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles, plurals, and verb forms, while also incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures.
