Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay identifies two causes (financial issues and a shift in student priorities) and touches upon the effects, the development is extremely limited and superficial. The conclusion is incomplete, consisting only of the phrase 'To conclude,'. Because the response is significantly under-length and lacks the necessary depth to fully address the prompt, it cannot progress beyond a band 5.0. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with specific examples, logical explanations, and a more thorough analysis of the societal consequences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Further' to structure the response. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of length and the abrupt, unfinished ending. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is non-existent. The logical flow is clear enough to follow, but the lack of development makes the overall structure feel mechanical and incomplete. To achieve a higher score, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence, supporting evidence, and a concluding sentence that links back to the main argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'impotrance' instead of 'importance', 'spendind' instead of 'spending', and 'deminished' instead of 'diminished'. The phrasing is often repetitive, and the word choice is somewhat simplistic. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes. Expanding your range of collocations related to education and economics would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'thinking of students has changed' (awkward phrasing), 'interest of science' (incorrect preposition), and 'that is whay' (spelling/grammar error). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for typos. Incorporating a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses or relative clauses, would help demonstrate better control.
