Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both the causes (lack of teacher support, poor lab facilities) and the effects (technological decline, medical issues), the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth or relevant examples. The position is not clearly established or maintained throughout the response. Because the essay is substantially under-length and the ideas are presented in a fragmented, superficial manner, it does not fully address the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is organized into short, disjointed paragraphs. There is a lack of logical progression between ideas, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and often inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'Although the students decreased their interest...' does not logically connect to the previous paragraph. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the overall structure feels repetitive rather than building a coherent argument. The lack of linking words makes the text difficult to follow, and the paragraphing is not used effectively to separate distinct points.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple, everyday words. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'deplicted' (likely meant 'depleted') and 'learn the students' (should be 'teach the students'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas regarding science education or societal impacts. The errors in word formation and collocation are frequent and occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occur in almost every sentence. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('students does not', 'students doesn’t'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors, such as 'If we don’t have knowledge how to deal with the electricity if haven’t knowledge about this then how to manufacturing...'. These persistent errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over basic grammatical structures.
