Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. The ideas are relevant, such as the perceived difficulty of science subjects and the economic impact of a skills shortage. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the causes are explained, the effects section relies on brief, bullet-point-like statements rather than fully extended arguments. The conclusion is also quite generic and does not effectively synthesize the main points discussed. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each point is supported by a more detailed explanation or a more specific, integrated example rather than listing them in a fragmented manner.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or awkward. For example, the phrase 'in regards to the problem' and 'in regards to effects' is repetitive and lacks stylistic variety. Additionally, the punctuation is inconsistent, with several instances of fragmented sentences and unnecessary full stops within paragraphs (e.g., 'the major effect which can be highlighted is . Shortage of skilled professionals'). Improving the flow between sentences and using a wider range of linking words would help the essay read more naturally and coherently.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some good topic-specific terms like 'biotechnology', 'data science', and 'mitigate'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'shortage of not enough students' (which is redundant) and 'a control can be taken over this problem'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic structures. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and avoiding redundant expressions. Expanding your range to include more academic, precise terminology will help elevate your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation and sentence construction that occasionally impede readability. For instance, the use of full stops before the start of a new point (e.g., '. Shortage of skilled professionals') is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic punctuation and sentence boundaries would significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
