Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and effects. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide reasons such as lack of interest and the appeal of other subjects, the explanation is often repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the discussion on 'unemployment' as an effect is mentioned multiple times without providing a nuanced argument about the broader societal impact. The ideas are relevant, but the supporting examples, such as the reference to a 'World Education Organisation' survey, feel generic and lack clear integration into the argument. To reach a higher band, focus on extending your points with more logical analysis rather than simply restating the same concepts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To clarify it' and 'To explain it' are used repetitively, and some transitions, such as 'On the contrary', are used incorrectly to introduce the effects section. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. While there is an attempt at an introduction and conclusion, the logical flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, which hinders the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', or 'subjects' and struggle with collocations. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'new innovative not take place' instead of 'innovation will not occur' and 'young blood' which is an informal idiom not suited for an academic essay. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas with precision. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to education and economics, and avoid using informal or non-standard phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak throughout the essay. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'students are love to do', 'people are forceful agree'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which makes reading difficult. While you attempt some complex structures, they are almost always marred by errors, such as 'the first and foremost factor which can be ignored it will boost up'. The high frequency of basic grammatical errors significantly impacts the clarity of your writing. Focusing on mastering simple sentence structures before attempting complex ones would be a beneficial strategy.
