Student answer (Band 6.0)

In various countries only few students are interested in selecting science as a study at university. In this easy I will discuss the reasons that stopping students to opt for science study, and its effect on society.

Moreover, students are not choosing science as a field because they're not confident and motivated enough to learn science. The graduates with science degree brainwash the new students by sharing their negative experience, such as study workload, and tough examination, and hard career pathway.

In addition, lack of creative teaching strategies makes students more reluctant to pick science as a field. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (lack of motivation, negative peer influence, and outdated teaching methods) and effects (societal stagnation and over-reliance on AI). However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that science graduates 'brainwash' new students is an over-generalization that lacks nuanced support. While the prompt is addressed, the arguments could be more thoroughly explored with specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the conclusion introduces new, slightly confusing ideas about AI that were not fully integrated into the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'In addition,' and 'Furthermore' are used to signal transitions between ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some sentences lack smooth connectivity. For example, the transition between the discussion of teaching methods and the conclusion is abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the internal structure of the final paragraph is slightly disjointed, making the progression of thought feel less cohesive than in the preceding sections.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'selecting science as a study' (should be 'choosing science as a major') and 'decrease preference' (should be 'decreasing preference'). The student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'innovation' and 'discovery,' but the range remains limited. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the word choice is often simplistic, which prevents the essay from demonstrating a more sophisticated command of the English language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Examples include 'In this easy I will discuss' (spelling error: 'essay'), 'reasons that stopping students' (should be 'reasons that stop students'), and 'how science do work' (should be 'how science works'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
