Give reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In many nations only a few pupils choose to study science at graduate level. There must be many reasons for this decision. Some are illustrated below:
1. Initial reason maybe a lack of opportunities. Almost every bright and talented student want to study science. However lower number of seat to student ratio makes it difficult to achieve an opportunity.
2. The next reason maybe a completely different and harder syllabus for appearing in the admission test. The testing process is in every county is harder than the other.
3. Some students just want to try something new and adventurous. That's why choose a different path of life other than science. Not everyone wants to a doctor or engineer in life.
4. Some choose due to family pressure. Some needs to earn early due to family problems and they become kind of helpless and choose groups other than science.
This choosing of different groups has various kind of impact on society. The impacts are discussed below in the paragraph:
1. Some diligent learners learn properly whether they are in science background or not. They learn their heart out and become the best assets of their nations and improve the society in a positive way.
2. Other kind of students do not make proper use of their time and resources. However they possess a very sharp mind for business and work for making out finding a way for their business.
3. Another kind of student simply waste their time, money ,resources and energy. They kind of become burden in the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and effects), but the development is insufficient. The use of a numbered list format is inappropriate for an IELTS Academic Task 2 essay, which requires formal, cohesive paragraphs. The ideas presented, such as 'lack of opportunities' or 'family pressure,' are mentioned but not adequately explained or supported with specific examples. The response lacks a clear introduction and conclusion, and the overall structure feels more like a set of notes than a formal essay. To improve, you must write in full, well-developed paragraphs that explore each point in depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow because it is presented as a list rather than a cohesive text. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the transition between ideas is mechanical and abrupt. While the use of numbering provides a basic structure, it does not meet the requirements for academic paragraphing. Cohesive devices are largely absent, and the progression of ideas is disjointed. To achieve a higher score, you need to use linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in addition') to connect your sentences and ensure your ideas flow naturally within well-structured paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'some are illustrated below' and 'the impacts are discussed below' are overly simplistic and not suitable for an academic essay. There are also some awkward word choices, such as 'making out finding a way' and 'become burden in the society.' While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should aim to use more precise academic terminology and avoid informal or fragmented phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Some needs to earn,' 'student want to study') and missing articles (e.g., 'become burden in the society'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and spacing. The lack of complex sentence structures limits your ability to demonstrate grammatical control. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and then incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring accuracy.
