Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and effects), but the development is inconsistent. While you identify reasons like 'difficulty in science subjects' and 'high workload,' the explanations are often repetitive or lack depth. For example, the claim that students prefer studying at home is mentioned multiple times without a clear link to why this causes a decline in university science enrollment. The effects are also somewhat vague, focusing on unemployment without fully exploring the broader societal consequences. To improve, ensure each paragraph provides a clear, logical explanation supported by a concrete example or a more detailed analysis of the consequences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. Transitions like 'To embark with' and 'After that' are used, but they do not always logically connect the sentences. There is also a tendency to repeat ideas, such as the mention of 'studying at home' throughout the second and third paragraphs, which makes the flow feel mechanical rather than fluid. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the link between studying at home and economic problems is not fully explained. Using a wider variety of cohesive devices would help improve the logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'study,' 'knowledge,' and 'science.' There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'led to partiality to choose subject' and 'creates a unemployment rates,' which are not natural English expressions. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision and the limited range of vocabulary prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many countries does not,' 'many student does not,' 'teachers and experts creates'). Articles are also frequently misused or omitted (e.g., 'in a education sector,' 'a interest'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often inaccurate, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors that distract from the content. Focusing on basic grammatical accuracy, such as pluralisation and article usage, will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
